Jeremy Deming, the owner of iMgX Kreativ, the vehicle-wrap division of Benchmark Signs Inc. (Coeur d’Alene, ID), designed this wrap for Sam Parmley, his shop’s installer – who also moonlights and spins the turntables as DJ Sam I Am. The Cadillac is Parmley’s personal vehicle, and the wood-paneling design was his idea. Deming used Adobe® Illustrator® to complete the layout – he added the iMgX and Cadillac logos – and transferred his design into Photoshop® to develop the wood-grain textures and effects.
“The car was pretty ugly,” Deming said. “Its fenders were different colors, but the paint was in decent shape. We simply gave the vehicle an alcohol rubdown and applied 3M’s Primer 94 to areas that needed help bonding the wrap with the trailer.”
IMgX Kreativ printed the wrap with 3M’s 180C Controltac repositionable media on the shop’s Seiko I Infotech ColorPainter 64S solvent-ink printer, which was equipped with an InkStream Pro-CP bulk-ink system obtained from www.solventcartridges.com. To shine the wood, iMgX applied 3M’s 8518 glossy, cast laminate with its Seal Ultra 62 wide-format laminator.
Deming said, “We didn’t originally plan to add the emblems and markings, but we realized the wood-panel design created a prime advertising backdrop. And, in this case, the customer [Parmley] handled installation himself.”
