ISA and USSC to Unite for EMC Rights

On January 14, the International Sign Assn. (ISA) and the United States Sign Council (USSC) jointly announced thier plans to combine their efforts to foster and create equitable sign codes for electronic message centers (EMCs).

In a press release, they stated goals to "examine the legal and scientific challenges presented by EMC technology in order to protect the ability of sign companies to sell and small businesses to use electronic message center (EMC) signs, and to work with government officials to ensure that these innovative signs are used effectively and appropriately in the driving environment."

The news item continues, "The goals of this unified approach by the on-premise sign industry are to help all stakeholders better understand the various issues involving EMCs and to explore ways that common recommendations or standards may work to the benefit of all concerned.

"A recent meeting between chief executives of ISA and USSC, held at ISA headquarters in Alexandria, VA, was initiated to explore strategies to combat the increasingly strident assertions of anti-sign groups and individuals that wish to severely restrict or even ban entirely the use of EMC technology."
