ISA Announces 2010 Design Competition Winners

The International Sign Assn. (ISA), Alexandria, VA, has announced the winners of its 2010 Sign Design Competition. The winners were selected, for the first time, online by the public. More than 17,000 votes were cast for more than 60 of ISA members’ 2009 completed projects, segmented in three distinct categories – signage for entertainment venues, restaurants/bars, and specialty retail/boutique shops. The winners are:
Restaurant/Bar: Kreg Lyles, from Young Electric Sign Co. (YESCO), in Denver, CO, created the main entrance sign for the Twisted Olive restaurant. The sign featured reverse pan channel letters with border neon on a radiused-canopy structure. Neon also lit the signature olive logo.
Entertainment Venue: Sign Works Co. Ltd. (Bangkok, Thailand) won for its design of the Hard Rock Café Phuket sign. More than 46 ft. tall, this 10,000-lb. sign was the largest ever constructed by the company. Three engineers spent more than a month designing the structure, which was then fabricated and transported 1,000 miles to the installation site.
Retail/Specialty: Sign Designs’ double-sided blade sign for Grow Marketing in Joplin, MO, won for its combination of heavy and industrial sign materials with a clean and modern lettering. It was created on a custom corrugated metal background with a 3-D tree and leaves. The tree is reverse halo lit, and the leaves comprise exposed neon green.
