Bridgestone Industrial Products (Nashville, TN) is introducing the Luxaura™ Light Guide, an acrylic rod that creates a solid-state light source when attached to LEDs that provide light and color. The Light Guide is a rigid, co-extruded, three-part structure comprising an outer cladding, an acrylic polymer core and a reflector strip that radiates light from the guide.
The clear, UV-resistant rod reportedly can be easily shaped when heated. Available in 6.5-, 10- and 14mm-diameter sizes, the product comes in lengths up to 6 ft. and can be cut with conventional tools. The system can be made waterproof.
The Light Guide, which radiates light at an output angle of 50-90°, operates on 12-14VDC, available through batteries or household current with the use of an AC/DC adapter.
