Mimaki USA (Suwanee, GA,) is introducing its multifunctional, 20 x 24-in., CFL-605RT compact, flatbed cutting plotter that supports reciprocating, tangential and eccentric cutting operations for the short-run production of custom prints, samples and package prototyping. The CLF-650RT will reciprocally cut foam, sponge, cardboard and similar media up to 10 mm thick; the tangential element cuts synthetic leather, coated cardboard, reflective vinyl, rubber and fluted cardboard up to 2 mm thick, and the eccentric cutter handles 1-mm thick, coated packaging materials, thin polycarbonate sheets, paper and film. The device also feature a dual-function creasing roller and a quiet, vacuum hold-down system.
Mimaki USA is also announcing its ES3 eco-solvent inks for the JV300, JV150, CJV300 and CJV150 series printers. The company says the fast-drying, scratch-resistant inks are compatible with various media — indoor posters to outdoor signs — and offer superior adhesion and color reproduction. The inks are available in black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta.

I studied this unique flatbed cutter at the 2015 ISA Sign Expo and see that it offers excellent cut choices for unique applications, especially for speciality shops. Note the table size is 20 x 24 in., and that it offers both tangential and eccentric cutting operations for various media — foam, cardboard, leather, vinyl and more. It also creases, which means it could help finish small-scale POP displays. Essentially, in special use applications, it could become a small-space profit center.
