Morgan Wallen Bar Sign Denied by Nashville Council

The Metro Nashville (TN) Council will not allow country music singer Morgan Wallen to have a sign bearing his name above the entrance of his new bar in the city’s Lower Broadway district, with 30 of 37 members denying the construction of the sign, according to a report by local NBC affiliate WSMV-TV.

The decision to deny the request was made the evening of May 21 in light of Wallen’s recent arrest and drunken behavior, in which he threw a chair off at the top of a bar balcony and used derogatory language in public.

“We want to make sure that Nashville was a supportive place for everyone, so I don’t want to see a billboard with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs, using the n-word, so I’m voting no,” Delishia Porterfield, council member at-large, is quoted in the article.

According to Nashville laws, “Any aerial, underground, or building (including awning, sign, canopy, fiber optic cable, etc.) that encroaches on Metro right-of-way must first be approved by Metro Council.”

Signs of the Times’ efforts to find the name of the sign company involved have been unsuccessful to this point, but any comment from them would be welcome.
