Palmer Signs Wrap Helps Vendor Take Tacos to the Streets

The purveyors of StrEAT Tacos, a food truck that navigates the streets of Sacramento during weekday lunch hours and weekend festivals, wanted a signature wrap to patrol California’s capital city and set up shop. The customers hired Palmer Signs (Roseville, CA) to produce the nearly 550-sq.-ft. wrap.

“All the customer asked for was a bright-pink color scheme and a rock-and-roll theme,” Tony Palmer, the shop’s owner said. “We wanted to combine rock, rockabilly, California’s hot-rod and Mexican low-rider culture into something really eye-popping.”

Justin “Juice” Lee, a shop designer, began the project by drawing the imagery and logo by hand; then, he cleaned them up in Photoshop, and vectorized the file using CADlink SignLab 9.1. Palmer created the vehicle’s template using high-resolution photos edited with Photoshop.

Palmer Signs used 3M™’s IJ180-10C Controltac™ with Comply air-release technology, which the shop printed on its Mimaki JV33-160 printer with ES3 eco-solvent inks. After having protected the print with 3M’s Scotchcal™ 8519 luster-finish topcoat, applied with a Seal 62 Ultra laminator, the installation crew of Palmer, Mike Decker, Tim Langel and Chris Gale applied the wrap with 3M Gold nylon squeegees outfitted with felt edges.

“In a city crowded with food trucks, the ‘pink monster’ stands out,” Palmer said.
