Put the Phone Down, Take an “Amish Hour,” and Reap the Harvest

Take an Amish Hour

If you spend as much time hanging around “productivity hack” websites as we do, you’ll soon come across the idea of “taking an Amish hour,” which is recommended to help you get better sleep or get back in touch with your artisan roots. The idea is to reject digital technology for an interval and enjoy the resulting lowered cortisol levels and clarity of mind. So, slot an “Amish hour” before bed to aid sleep or during work to feel more like an artisan. Do something totally non-tech, such as an hour of handcrafted work — and enjoy the benefits.
