Trying economic times plus ever-tightening school budgets often pit parents and teachers in a financial crunch. Students must often sit within overcrowded classrooms and learn from aging, worn textbooks. Given these circumstances, any sort of assistance proves welcome.

Avery Dennison sought to help a needy NYC school in record-breaking fashion by setting a Guinness Book of World Records mark for most school supplies donated within a 24-hour period. Avery Dennison officials and students from NYC’s Adolph S. Ochs School, which will be receiving the supplies, stuffed a school bus with 8,500 lbs. of school supplies, with a value of more than $125,000.

SkinzWraps’ NYC facility decorated the bus for the occasion using Avery Dennison’s graphics and reflective-products division’s MPI 1005 Supercast Easy Apply RS, which the shop decorated using its Epson GS 6000 solvent-ink printer. To keep the colors vibrant, SkinzWraps laminated the print with Avery’s DOL 1060 gloss laminate, which it applied with a Seal wide-format laminator.

Avery Dennison, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, conducted the event as part of its Given Back to Schools program, which will also provide 10 schools with additional accumulated supplies. To nominate a school, students, families and other supports may nominate their local K-8 schools at www.averdennisongivebacktoschools.com through September 5. The 10 schools with the most votes will win a share of the donated supplies.
