Saul Steinberg Mural Displayed at Cincinnati Art Museum

The Cincinnati Art Museum is now displaying a Saul Steinberg mural that has been in storage for a quarter century. The oil on canvas features local landmarks such as the Roebling Suspension Bridge, the Tyler Davidson Fountain and the Ohio River. Steinberg, who died in 1999, and is best known for the drawings and covers he created for the New Yorker magazine, painted the 75 x 10-ft. mural in 1948 on a commission for the newly built Terrace Plaza Hotel. When the hotel was sold in 1965, Emery donated the painting to the museum. It was displayed there until 1982, when it was put in storage.
