Jim and Sharon Weinel have endowed the University of Cincinnati with a second chair at the university’s College of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning – Terence M. Fruth/Gemini Chair of Signage Design and Community Planning, Eminent Scholar of Urban/Environmental Design. The chair’s purpose includes assisting the signage industry to understand demands placed on city planners by planning codes, determining ways for expedited signage approval in urban areas, educating city planners on the value of signage, develop signage that is integrated into building design and more.
The James S. Womack/Gemini Chair of Signage and Visual Marketing at the University of Cincinnati School of Business was created in late 2007 (see ST, December 2007, page 176). The chairs are expected to collaborate on research projects.
