The Society for Environmental Graphic Design (SEGD), Washington, D.C., is announcing its 2012 SEGD Global Design Awards. The competition is open to environmental-graphic, exhibit-graphic and public-art projects competed between January 1, 2009 and the end of 2011. Projects much demonstrate such EGD elements as typography, symbols, pictograms and color coding as part of a design solution that communicates information, identity or image within the built environment.
The entry fee is $120 per project for members (or $240 for non-members) for one to three projects, and $100 per project for for or more ($200 non-members). For students, the fee is $35 per project ($50 non-members). The deadline is January 31; late entries will be accepted until Feburary 14, but those submitted after January 31 will be assessed a late fee of $50 per project.
Submission must include a description of 500 words or less that describes the project in terms of the following characteristics:
•whether the environment is built or unbuilt
•EGD aspects
•design challenges
•design intent
•scope of work
•budget and schedule
•accessibility issues
•why the project is unique
•clear intent to communicate
•informational graphic elements
•innovation in design and materials
•needs of the client and user
•constraints and opportunities
•green design considerations
