SGP Elects New Member to Board of Directors

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) has elected Birdley James of Miller Zell (Atlanta) to its board of directors. James — who serves as SGP/EHS’s (Environmental Health & Safety) coordinator and compliance manager and leads retail experience solutions company Miller Zell’s sustainability efforts — will be tasked with supporting SGP certification and helping drive a more sustainable future for the print industry.

“I believe that education, responsibility and ownership should be a key component to every printer’s business approach,” said James. “SGP practices offer guidance and truly support those fundamentals allowing companies to realize their real potential. In return, we are all given a better and brighter tomorrow.”

As a new member of the all-volunteer board, James’s responsibilities include expanding recycling initiatives, as well as overseeing sustainability program compliance, SGP certification requirements, environmental and safety compliance audits, environmental safety processes and procedures, and safety training.

In the past, James served on the SGP committee that created the SGP Sustainability Champion award program. James joins Calvin Lakhan, Ph.D. from the Consortium for Waste Circularity as new SGP directors, along with re-elected officers and directors:

  • Jodi Sawyer, vice chair engagement, FLEXcon
  • Theresa Vanna, vice chair marketing, Primex Plastics Corp.
  • Rosalyn Bandy, TLMI
  • Suzanna Eversole, REI Recreational Equipment Inc.
  • George Glisan, Ph.D., Appalachian State University

Other board members continuing their terms include:

  • Jonathan Graham, chair, TE Connectivity
  • Marci Kinter, secretary and vice chair technical, PRINTING United Alliance
  • George Fuchs, vice chair information technology, NAPIM
  • Doreen Monteleone, Ph.D., treasurer, D2 Advisory Group/FTA
  • Frank Bailey, Smyth Companies LLC
  • Sean Carr, HH Global
  • Adrian Cook, 3M
  • Ben Covert, Piedmont Plastics
  • Nicole Papadakis, North American Plastics
  • Bryan Rose, Cooley/Group
  • Kristin Spanier, Shawmut Communications Group

SGP certification recognizes sustainability leaders in the printing industry who complete the certification requirements and facility audit evaluating three areas of sustainability: people, planet and profit. For more information visit sgppartnership.org/certification.
