Sign Cellar Truck Wrap Earns its Stripes

Cameron Hackl, proprietor of The Sign Cellar (Kamloops, BC, Canada), took his cues from a World War II-era Grumman fighter plane when decorating this 1980s-vintage delivery truck. He perfected the design using CorelDraw Graphics Suite x5 and Adobe Creative Suite 3. The design features an eclectic mix of Allied Forces-style nose art (complete with a toothy scowl and a pinup girl), the shop’s name conveyed in a type-face reflective of Russian Constructivism, and a web URL displayed in German as secondary text. And, replicated bulletholes add to the quasi-military motif.

The Sign Cellar produced the wrap on Avery Graphics’ EZ RS 1005 Supercast glossy media with the shop’s Roland DGA SolJet Pro III SP-540V inkjet printer and Eco-Sol Maxx low-solvent inks. In addition to felt squeegees to smooth the film onto the vehicle, and torches to keep the film pliable while installing over the truck’s broad surface, Hackl said beer was another invaluable installation tool (although he didn’t divulge, speculation is that Molson and Labatt’s were on hand to motivate the hard-working crew).
