The three co-owners of Linden Signs (Spokane, WA) are hanging up their paintbrushes as they prepare to close the shop their father Vic started 75 years ago, The Spokesman-Review reports.
Nick, Chris and Steve Linden have decided to retire after running the hand-painted sign business for decades. They sought to sell the shop, but couldn’t find a buyer and will instead shut it down.
While new signmaking technologies have posed a threat to hand-painting concerns like Linden Signs, the business was able to adapt through the years.
“We just feel like we’ve done our dues, and we need to go do something fun – not that we don’t enjoy the sign business,” Nick Linden told the outlet.
It will be quite the chore to move out of the building the shop has occupied since 1952, as boxes of sign supplies cover nearly every inch of the shelves, the article adds. The brothers even kept their father’s old paintbrushes from as far back as 1946, which remain usable. “Perfection really was everything to him,” Chris Linden said.
