SunPro Graphics’ Food-Truck Wrap Spreads Its Wings

The food-truck trend shows no signs of abating; if they’re here in Cincinnati, they’re everywhere. People generally associate them with Asian, Latin or some other type of exotic, international cuisine. But, sometimes a hungry person on the go just craves something simple, like chicken wings. Buttoned-up Washington, D.C. might seem an improbable placed for a food truck to set up shop, but Wings Over Washington, a popular Capital City stop, takes its sauces on the road, and enlisted SunPro Graphics (Edison, NJ) to wrap its behemoth delivery truck. SunPro designer Chris Aumack developed the wrap from scratch with Adobe Creative Suite.

The shop produced the wrap on its Roland DGA SolJet Pro III printer with Arlon’s DPF 6000XRP air-release vinyl, which is coated with Arlon’s Series 3220 crystal-gloss overlaminate that’s applied with a 63-in., thermal laminator.

“The only challenge with the job was wrapping the service window, because the customer originally wanted the truck worker to see customers coming from inside,” SunPro owner Bill Eng said. “After seeing the wrap, they decided they wanted opaque film, and we redecorated the window.”

However, D.C.-area food trucks likely face challenges ahead. Responding to complaints from brick-and-mortar restaurants, local officials have enacted a series of stringent regulations that require vendors to set up within designated zones and pay fees to enter a lottery for the spaces.
