Shane Durnford, proprietor of an eponymous signshop in Creemore, ON, Canada, refers to this watering hole at the Queen’s Hotel as a “casual sports bar,” but one look at this regal sign indicates beer spilling and chest bumping might be frowned upon within. After having devised it with Adobe® Illustrator® CS2, Durnford fabricated this 9 ft. x 3 ft. x 14-in. sign with stack-laminated, 2-in.-thick panels of 18-lb. DesignBoard HDU, which he bonded with West Systems’ two-part epoxy. He handcarved the substrate with carving gouges, a Foredom tool with Kutzal bits, flexible rasps, sandpaper and an Arbortech cutting wheel. He crowned his signage with exterior-grade, latex paint and goldleaf. Durnford designed the metal hanging bracket, which George Ioudine Iron Works (Acton, ON) fabricated. Ioudine also helped Durnford install the signage.
