The View from the Victory Lane

The FastSigns store in Goodyear, AZ had worked with the Phoenix International Raceway before, but in this year, its first of three years as the exclusive provider for major signage for all races, the branch could do something really big, literally.

With a MacDermid Colorspan 9840 UV, two Mimaki JV-3s, a Gerber Edge and, as owner Jerry Hoyler puts it, “a plethora of plotters,” this FastSigns has wrapped pace cars and a 42-ft. Gooseneck trailer, printed 60-ft. mesh banners and everything in between.

Hoyler says making cost-effective signage provided a challenge. The banners in Champion’s Row featured the FastSigns logo at the top, with a larger-than-life image of a cup winner underneath. Because the sign provider would stay the same, but winners change with every race, the shop split the banners, allowing the logo to stay while it changed out the banners with other winners, which eliminated excessive waste.

And, because non-signmakers handled some installation, Hoyler more user-friendly signs. He adds, “It’s easy for a sign guy to use a sign, but other people have to handle it.”
