Andy Bertucci has announced his decision to retire as executive director of the United State Sign Council (USSC). He has held this position since the founding of USSC in 1995. He will continue to direct the work of the USSC Foundation, which produces more than 15 research studies and standards applications. He announced his decision at the March 6 USSC board of directors meeting.
Nancy Maren, who currently serves in many executive positions involving member resources and communication, financial management, and tradeshow planning and registration, has assumed the executive director position.
Maren is a graduate, summa cum laude, of the College of New Jersey with a psychology degree. She is past president of the Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation and an avid quilter. She has traveled extensively in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
She began her sign-industry career in 1974 as an administrative assistant with the Delaware Valley Sign Assn., followed by various executive services to the New Jersey Sign Assn., the New York State Sign Assn., the Eastern States Sign Council and USSC.
Both Bertucci and Maren have been instrumental in organizing and directing the USSC since its founding as a national, sign-industry trade association. Their management has seen the USSC grow from a relatively small eastern-regional base into an industry force for on-premise sign education and academic research.
