YESCO’s Las Vegas Hard Rock Cafe Guitar Sign Retired

Young Electric Sign Company (YESCO, Las Vegas) recently restored the city s 27-year-old Hard Rock Café guitar sign, which YESCO had removed from its original installation site and moved to the company s Boneyard.

The re-wired guitar was illuminated again for the first time during a private event for donors and VIPs of the city s nonprofit Neon Museum, a portion of which includes YESCO s Boneyard. The sign joins many other retired Las Vegas neon signs where guests of the Neon Museum may take up-close looks at them.

Following are some facts about the sign, provided by the Las Vegas Informer:

  • The restoration took about 1,650-man hours to complete the rebuild and install.
  • The Hard Rock letters are made up of 1,538, 10-watt clear incandescent light bulbs, spaced out 3 in. on center.
  • Neon colors used on the guitar were ruby red, clear red, 3500K white and gold II.
  • There are approximately 4,110 feet of neon tubing on the sign, equating to more than three-quarters of a mile and more than 700 individual neon units.

Founded in 1996, the Neon Museum (located at 770 N. Las Vegas Blvd.) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, studying and exhibiting iconic Las Vegas signs for educational, historic, arts and cultural enrichment. The Neon Museum houses an outdoor exhibition space known as the Neon Boneyard, among other spaces. For tour schedules and pricing information, visit neonmuseum.org.
