Belly up for 19 thirst-quenching tavern signs — 20 including the sign by PA Signs (Scranton, PA) you see here — collected from Signs of the Times’ Benchmarks features of the last several years. You’ll find everything from Timberlake’s high-end destination to a biker bar in Sturgis, SD, and from a pub that shouldn’t need “Bar Rescue” to a bar named after Bullwinkle the moose.

RiNo Sign Works (Lakewood, CO) for Bruz Beers (Denver).

RiNo fabricated the main structure, laminated the barrel to make it look like wood and added color-changing Philips Hue LED rope lights for an eye-catching arrow detail, while acrylic push-throughs were used for letter depth.

Synergy Sign & Graphics (Strasburg, OH) for Huck’s Tavern (Coshocton, OH).

Synergy used a 3D-modeled pictorial of Huck to fabricate the image out of 30-lb. Coastal Enterprises Precision Board with a MultiCam 3000 router and a CNC plasma cutter.

Fastsigns of Augusta (Augusta, GA) for The Loft bar (Augusta, GA).

Fastsigns used HanleyLED Stellar Edge Series S-1270 and ⅛-in. white acrylic with die-cut 3M 3630 Scotchcal Translucent black vinyl for the faces, cut with their 20-year-old, 64-in. Mimaki plotter.

Designer Heart & Skull Graphics (Phoenix) and signmaker Signs by Van (Salinas, CA) for Tom’s Tavern (Winslow, AZ).

Letters in a Nutcracker font, a branded brandy glass and a Route 66 shield reinforce the sense of place, while custom paint work by local artists Austin Helwig and Dong Sun Kim (aka Mr. Kim) make the details pop.

Metro Sign and Awning (Tewksbury, MA) for Taffer’s Tavern (Watertown, MA).

Metro Sign worked with “Bar Rescue’s” Jon Taffer’s team on the “mixology” of signage using 1.5-in.-deep fabricated aluminum painted a metallic-copper color, then halo illuminated with white LED modules and mounted to a 3-in.-deep, matte black aluminum backer with no visible seams.

Atchley Graphics (Columbus, OH) for Little Rock Bar (Columbus, OH).

The exterior graphics (a refresh of a 2013 install) were digitally printed on 3M textured-surface vinyl media and laminate, then latex printed on an HP printer and finished with a Summa digital cutter.

Skymark Signs (Toronto) for GLB Brewpub (Toronto).

Skymark incorporated 3/16-in. can acrylic for the faces, .040 aluminum coil for the returns and clinched (rather than stapled) the backers to 3mm ACM sheets using a Computerized Cutters bender, a Biesse router and HanleyLED electrical components.

Studio Dzo (Austin, TX) for Spare Birdie Public House (Cedar Park, TX).

Taking inspiration from traditional pubs, Studio Dzo created the logo to feature subtle nods to bowling and golf.

Media 1 Wrap This (Sanford, FL) for Cuba Libre Orlando (Orlando, FL).

The Media 1 team used their MultiCam router table and 3M DP 810 epoxy to build the sign and finished it with Matthews Paint in just nine days.

Trademark Visual (Phoenix) for The Twelve Thirty Club (Nashville, TN).

For superstar owners Justin Timberlake and culinary icon Sam Fox, Trademark used GE Current Tetramax LED modules to give the three-story restaurant a sign that encapsulates its lushness and stardom.

Abbott Image Solutions (Wilmington, OH) for Pap’s Hilltop Distillery (Hillsboro, OH).

The distinctive elements include a main sign consisting of a custom-painted backer with halo- and face-illuminated channel letters plus dimensional accent pieces; a dimensional, illuminated blade icon sign created using multiple layers and painting techniques; and a custom, rustic awning with channel letters and lights above and below.

Butler Sign Co. (Wayne, NJ) and Sean Cahill of Cahill Studio (Tinton Falls, NJ) for Tavern 5 (Pompton Plains, NJ).

While restaurant design firm Cahill created the Tavern’s entire look, including the signage, Butler fabricated it, going off of Cahill’s design renderings for material selection, dimension, color and natural shadowing. Materials included Gemini solid-painted aluminum and brushed-copper letters for the exterior as well as HDU sign panels and paint by JPS Signs (Erie, PA).

Boyd Sign Systems (Englewood, CO) for Oasis (Sturgis, SD).

Home to one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the US, the unique architecture of the building required the sign to stand off about 6 in., plus a ¼-in. aluminum back with an added ¾-in. Kömacel PVC front panel for interest.

Crossroad Sign Studio (Lynnwood, WA) for Tapped Mill Creek (Mill Creek, VA).

Crossroad provided all design and project management from conception to final inspection, matching the job to the most appropriate regional fabricator when applicable.

CAT Graphics (Great Falls, MT) for Whiskey Ridge (Great Falls, MT).

CAT Graphics used a crane to overlay a structure composed of Dibond backers with printed and laminated 3M vinyl, and front-mounted LED-lit channel letters, on top of a pre-existing rooftop sign.

Tennessee Sign Co. (Murfreesboro, TN) for Wall Street (Murfreesboro, TN).

Manufactured by Z3 Graphics (Greenville, SC), the flush-mounted channel letter set with white acrylic faces and blue backlit LEDs was installed by Tennessee Sign.

So Easy Signs (Middletown, OH) for Bullwinkle’s (Miamisburg, OH).

The sign was constructed with a pan aluminum backer, trimless aluminum reverse/halo-lit channel letters, and a push-through acrylic tagline can.

RiNo Sign Works for Sun Dog Taproom (Winter Park, CO).

Aided by Denver-based and design firm ArtHouse, RiNo fabricated an aluminum cabinet with a faux blackened-steel paint effect and push-through acrylic letters painted on their faces with an AkzoNobel Grip-Gard EFx color gradient prior to being cut using SAi EnRoute Pro on the shop’s MultiCAM Apex1R CNC Router.

Signs by Autografix made sure no fasteners were visible on this sign lit by HanleyLED Stellar Edge modules from Principal Sloan. The sign was installed with the help of Signature Sign & Graphics (New Haven, CT).
