Approximately three months after learning that his retro-cool, patriotic graphics had won Avery’s Supercast My Ride contest (where he prevailed among more than 120 competing submissions), Daniel Wayne Logue, a vehicle-wrap designer for Lincoln, NE-based Express Signs, enjoyed the greatest spoils of his victory. On November 20, he watched his creation firsthand from pit row on Steve Wallace’s No. 66 car as it raced in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Ford 300 at Homestead (FL) Motor Speedway. Logue’s design, titled “Salute the Soldiers,” celebrates World War II-era, airplane nose art – complete with pin-up girls, bullet holes and a snarling mouth — which integrate with the car’s sponsor, 5 Hour Energy, as well as labels for secondary sponsors.
“It was incredible to see No. 66 wrapped with my design in person,” he said. ‘It was an amazing opportunity to meet Steve and [Steve’s father and team owner] Rusty Wallace, and know that my design was seen by millions of people.”
Rusty Wallace Racing produced the graphics using Avery’s MPI 1005 Supercast Easy Apply RS air-release media, which it printed on its Mutoh ValueJet 1614 eco-solvent printer – which incorporates the company’s Eco-Ultra inks — and cut on its Mutoh SC Pro cutter.
