Anniversary Celebrations and More in July-August’s Inbox

Material Solution

  • We have a good customer that among all the projects we do for them, they needed us to print on small paper strips. Wanting to keep them from looking elsewhere, we tried it: .56 x 2.25 in. and some even smaller. Sizing is critical to fit the carriers they use. Printing was not an issue. But cutting! The Roland could not do it, nor our plotter because of the thinness of the paper and the small size. The wife of our production manager heard of our problem and came up with a solution: Cricut Standard Grip Machine Mat. After a little testing to get the depth correct, this works like a charm going through the plotter. The mat holds its place without leaving any residue. — Ted DeWitt, Signarama Covina, Covina, CA

Enthused Readers

  • Just a thank you! For putting my image and manager’s to-do idea in the April magazine, page 20. — Chrysanna Hanes, Sign Art Group, Tampa, FL
  • I just want to say, that May cover was sick. The wrap was a jaw dropper and I loved it! I can’t wait to show my son. — Wendy Allgood, FSG Signs, Austin, TX
  • I like all the comments and large concerns about hiring disgruntled workers from another sign company. There are two sides to every story, and I like the idea of sitting down with the other owner [to learn] what is his side. — James Cota, JC Signs & Graphics, Clear Lake, MN
  • The sign design contest is always my favorite! I have also enjoyed reading the real-life columns by other members. The more raw the info, the better! — Matt Baker, Bakers’ Signs & Mfg., Conroe, TX

Piqued Interest

  • Celebrating our 20th anniversary this month. What are some ways companies have celebrated milestones with the full company? — Sara Geiger, Fox Cities Sign, Appleton, WI
  • Sign company install trucks: appearance, truck options, benefits of the truck, tools and tool cabinets, safety equipment, convenience items for the crews. Sign trucks are a big part of the sign industry. — Paul Boegemann, Paul Signs Inc., Brooklyn, NY
  • Sign painting. I would love to learn more about signshops that spray Matthews or similar paint systems. Spray booths, environmental aspects of these paints, how you dispose of supplies and leftover paints. — Thomas Nance, Signarama Louisville Downtown, Louisville, KY
