Clear Channel Spectacolor is donating time on its Times Square SpectacolorHD digital billboard to support the MillionTreesNYC initiative. Through November 14, Clear Channel will run a 30-second PSA once an hour.
The City of New York’s Parks & Recreation department has launched a new seasonal PSA, which features former New York Jets’ Kris Jenkins, that urges New Yorkers to plant and care for trees this fall. MillionTreesNYC is a key component of Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC 2030 sustainability vision. The goal is to add a million new trees to NYC’s urban forest by 2017.
The SpectacolorHD display sits in the heart of Times Square at 47th Street and Broadway, next to Duffy Square. This is the second year that Clear Channel has promoted the Parks & Recreation campaign pro bono.
As part of the initiative, the city is educating NYC youth about the importance of trees so they’ll protect and maintain the city’s urban forest and environment, and perhaps be inspired to join training programs within the initiative for green jobs. The students featured in the PSA were summer-camp students from the Hansborough, Manhattan and Brownsville, Brooklyn recreation centers who learned about trees through the Parks department’s after-school and summer-camp programs.
In addition to Times Square, the PSA can be viewed on NYC life, the official television network of the City of New York, for the next six weeks.
The PSA was produced pro-bono by Charles Farrell and Kathleen Russell of Mickle and Muckle Inc. The "the nana song" was written by Jon Neufeld and performed by jonka music.
