Entertainment and Retail for the Future

KTGY Group Inc., an Irvine, CA-based architectural firm, was selected for the Gateway in South Gate (CA), a 600,000-sq.-ft. lifestyle, retail and entertainment destination. The project – to be unveiled in late 2008 – will feature a 200-ft.-wide, LED media facade, which KTGY has dubbed the E-Canvas. Beyond its large-format video imagery, this multimedia system allows guests to interact directly via cellphone or PDA.

The $175 million project, which is a joint venture between Red Mountain Retail Group (Santa Ana, CA) and Allied Retail Partners (Newport Beach, CA), will be a celebration of brands, says Greg Lyon, KTGY principal. “This project blurs the line between retail/entertainment and advertising to provide content and design. Think of New York’s Time Square, where the architecture transforms itself into an ever-changing canvas of graphic content and messaging. This is what we envision for South Gate.”
