Fujifilm North America Corporation (Hanover Park, IL) has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Eastman Kodak Co. (Rochester, NY) in the New Jersey District Court, according to a press release.
Fujifilm is seeking damages and injunctive relief for Eastman Kodak’s unauthorized manufacture, use, import and sale of its processless lithographic printing plate technologies, the release states. The company claims that Eastman Kodak has infringed on four patents pertaining to these technologies (U.S. Patent United States Nos. 10,427,443, 10,525,696, 10,875,346 and 11,294,279), including those sold under the product name SONORA X and the brand umbrella name SONORA XTRA.
Fujifilm has previously filed lawsuits against Eastman Kodak’s European subsidiaries — Kodak GmbH, Kodak Graphic Communications GmbH and Kodak Holding GmbH — in the Unified Patent Court and Germany in October and December 2023, for infringing on the European counterparts of its U.S. patents-in-suit.
“We will enforce and protect our innovation and intellectual property rights in the United States and around the world when we believe others infringe unfairly,” Toyoyuki “Tommy” Katagiri, president of Fujifilm North America’s Graphic Communication Division, is quoted in the release. “We will continue to protect our intellectual property in processless lithographic printing plates, to the benefit of our customers, including small, family-owned printing businesses, as well as medium- and large-sized printing businesses.”
