Geek Wraps Gives Jack Frost a Warm Reception

Geek Wraps Inc. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) developed a wrap program for Jack Frost Heating & Air Conditioning, which operates locations in Florida and Tennessee, three years ago. Don Horenzy, Jack Frost’s owner, wanted a redesign to outfit his upgraded fleet. This Ford Econoline was the first Jack Frost vehicle to be decorated for the new campaign. Ken and Kathy Calman designed the wrap, which features its custom, “Jack Frost” cartoon character, using Lightwave 3-D soft-ware, Photoshop and Illustrator.

“Custom fleet programs, especially those with 5 to 25 vehicles, represent a large portion of our work,” Kathy said. “We actively market to these types of clients, and get a lot of jobs through word of mouth.”
Geek Wraps produced the wrap with Avery’s MPI 1005 EZ RS air-release media on a Roland SolJet Pro III XC-540 printer with Eco-Sol Max low-solvent inks.

The vans’ sides were wrapped with two horizontal panels, which were seamed approximately 18 in. above the bottom. The rear doors were decorated with two, vertical panels seamed in the middle. Geek Wraps’ heavy-duty magnets joined the panels on a table so it could be installed as a single, giant piece. Avery’s DOL 1060 glossy-finish topcoat will help the title character brand the company for years to come.

“Wrapping an Econoline isn’t really that challenging,” she said. “The van’s sides wrap around to the back door, so you need sufficient design bleed on the side-panel backs to allow material to fit without stretching.”

Kathy and Rasin Fasel-Pour installed this wrap. To date, Geek Wraps has wrapped two of eight vehicles for the job. To complete the job, they used intermittent bursts of torch heat and various sizes of its soft-edged squeegees.

Geek Wraps sells its proprietary magnets and squeegees through Fellers.
