GKD Introduces Illumesh Architectural-communication System

GKD Metal Fabrics (Cambridge, MD) is introducing its Illumesh® architectural-communication system. Created in partnership with ag4 media façade GmbH, the system combines stainless-steel wire-mesh fabric with information-technology-based LED technology to create integrated, media-based architectural solutions. Illumesh is suitable for large-scale, night illumination for architectural facades and can be used with GKD’s Mediamesh system to create media facades that are fully visible at all times.

Round profiles are woven into a metal-fabric panel horizontally at 20- to 160-in. intervals. LEDs are inserted into the profiles and sealed. Openings between the round profiles and the metal fabric can be directed inwards to shine on the mesh to determine the illuminated area. The mesh permits display of simple graphics, animation and heavily processed video images; it requires half the LED resolution needed for a direct video display. Concealed control units connected to central servers coordinate the power supply and data. The display can be operated via the Internet.
