Imagination Corp. Wins 2018 Sign Invitational

Orlando, FL – Dan Sawatzky, president of Imagination Corp. (Chilliwack, BC, Canada) won the third annual Sign Invitational, held within the Intl. Sign Assn s 2018 Sign Expo in Orlando from March 22-24.

Sawatzky s Ideamatic won out over second-place finisher Gary Johnson of The Great American Sign Co. Inc. (Basking Ridge, NJ), third-place finisher Jim Dawson of Synergy Sign & Graphics (Strasburg, OH) and fourth-place finisher Douglas Hancock of Sign Pro of North Florida Inc. (Alachua, FL). The competition was sponsored in part by MultiCam and judged in their booth.

The four projects were on display for the duration of the ISA Expo and were judged by visitors to the MultiCam booth. The four participants were available in the booth to discuss their projects and the purpose of the competition. We strongly feel that there needs to be a lot more creativity in the sign industry and see the Sign Invitational as a way to encourage that, Sawatzky said.   We are already very excited about next year’s contest which will have a theme of ‘TIME’ [with] two categories … One with a similar build envelope to the past, 2 x 2 x 6 ft. and a smaller, wall-mounted version which will measure 3 x 3 ft. max.

All four finalists expressed a desire to see more entrants for the 2019 invitational and the group is considering ways to broaden the judging as well, with a preliminary round of voting, likely online, floated as one concept. Suffice it to say that given the energy and passion within this core group of sign artist and continued sponsorship, next year s Sign Invitational is more than something to look forward to. It may be something to participate in.
