Media Wall Helps Welcome Young Patients at UCLA

Electrosonic Systems Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) and Hunt Design (Pasadena, CA) teamed up to create a welcome wall for visitors and patients at the new, 100,000-sq.-ft. Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA.

The facility, designed by I.M. Pei, incorporates graceful, curving forms, which are echoed in the curved welcome wall.

Electrosonic provided and installed audio, video and control systems for the media wall. The main video show features patient testimonials displayed on two, 65-in. HD plasma screens. Three small LCD screens and three rear-projection screens show images of staff and patients. Video cameras embedded at child height in an etched-glass column facing the wall feed snapshots of the young arrivals to the screens. Patients contributed letters and drawings that are projected.
