The customer — Ed "The Big Dog" Johnson from Benton, KY — contacted me through our website, www.abracadabrasigns.com. He explained his business concept: A colorful houseboat converted into The Big Dog, a fast-food stand that would feature a gigantic, Chicago-style hot dog installed on its roof.

Johnson said the boat would be situated on Kentucky Lake, which is in the western part of the Bluegrass State. The Big Dog would serve hot dogs (natch), onion rings, fries, sodas and the like.

After a brief conversation with Johnson, I knew he was my type of customer. That is, crazy enough to think beyond "standard" signage. First, I provided a rough layout to make sure we were on the same wavelength. After his thumbs-up, I provided a Prismacolor
