Protective Print Coating

ZeroNine (Woodstock, IL) is introducing FrogSkin54™, an ultra-thin, ultra-clear protective ink for eco-solvent or solvent-based inkjet prints. The clear, protective coating is applied, like a film laminate, using a hot-roll laminator. FrogSkin54™ helps protect the graphics from harsh chemicals, abrasion and UV light while maintaining its clear and glossy appearance, the company reports.

The material, ideal for flat signage installations and glossy vinyl surfaces, comprises a protective, clear, dry, resin ink and a polyester carrier. The protective resin ink transfers to the printed graphics during the lamination; the polyester carrier is removed after completion. The ink and the carrier form a single material web, with no obvious, two-ply construction. The material is self-wound with the inside coating.
