Roland’s SOLJET Printer/Cutter for Metallic Silver Eco-Solvent Ink

Roland DGA Corporation (Irvine, CA) has announced a metallic silver, ECO-SOL MAX ink (ESL3-MT) for its new, SOLJET PRO III XC-540MT 54 in. wide, inkjet printer/cutter, which, Roland says, is the industry’s first metallic ink for eco-solvent inkjet printing. The high-density ink will print on vinyl, paper, PET film, banner materials and canvas. It can be combined with other, Roland CMYK inks to produce such metallic hues as gold, bronze and pearlescent colors. Additionally, it was bestowed DPI’s 2009 Product of the Year award.

The metallic silver, ECO-SOL MAX ink is exclusively available for Roland’s new, XC-540MT inkjet printer/cutter, which is based on established SOLJET PRO III technology. The XC-540MT prints six colors, including CMYK+metallic silver+white (CMYK+Mt+W). A double white ink model (CMYK+WW) is also available for extra white text, graphics and floods.

Additionally, the XC-540MT contour cuts graphics in one seamless workflow.

Applications include signs, posters, banners, vehicle graphics, POP displays, labels, window decorations, stickers, packaging prototypes and apparel heat transfers,

The XC-540MT uses ECO-SOL MAX inks which provide a broad color gamut, scratch resistance, uncoated media support and outdoor durability of up to three years for CMYK inks; one year for white, and one-to-three years for the metallic silver ink.

The XC-540MT prints at speeds up to 441 sq. ft./hr. in CMYK mode, at resolutions up to 1440×1440 dpi. It includes a heavy-duty, media handling system, automated maintenance and a DU-540 dryer/blower unit (required for metallic silver ink applications). Roland’s Intelligent Pass Control system both enhances image quality and expedites production.

To prevent the metallic silver and white ink pigments from settling, the XC-540MT includes Roland’s patent-pending, automated-ink circulation system, which reduces waste of white and metallic silver ink up to 84%.

The XC-540MT ships with Roland’s VersaWorks 3.3 RIP software, a true Adobe PostScript 3 RIP that incorporates the latest Adobe CPSI 3018 engine. VersaWorks features the Roland Color System which optimizes the metallic silver, ECO-SOL MAX ink and accurately reproduces spot colors from Roland Color charts and swatch books. VersaWorks’ new, Roland Metallic Color library features 12 colors that print using CMYK+Mt in a single pass. This palette includes silver, gold, bronze and nine other metallic colors. Roland VersaWorks RIP software also allows you to create and save custom metallic spot colors.
