People dressed in ill-fitting or outdated clothes are often threatened tongue-in-cheek with a visit from the Fashion Police. Well, according to this wrap, they do exist. Sort of.
Mercedes-Benz USA, which is based in Montvale, NJ near the Big Apple, is a lead sponsor for NYC’s Fashion Week, which, every February, gathers clothiers, models and otherwise appearance-obsessed people to absorb the fashion industry’s happenings (or gawk at some outlandishly clad models gliding down the runway). To amplify its event presence, it hired SunPro Graphics (Edison, NJ) to wrap a fleet of Mercedes CLS AMG 63 bi-turbo-engine sedans with wraps that identified the vehicles as transport for Mercedes-Benz’s “Fashion Force.”
The silver vehicles arrived brand new; SunPro owner Bill Eng said each vehicle had less than 10 miles on the odometer. Mercedes-Benz supplied the design files, which Eng said required moderate tweaking with Adobe Creative Suite to conform the graphics to the CLS’ sharp body contours. Using Roland DGA Corp.’s VersaWorks RIP on its SolJet Pro III printer, SunPro created a custom color profile, which was produced with Roland’s Eco-Sol MAX eco-solvent ink. The shop completed the wrap with Arlon’s DFP 6000 XRP air-release laminate, which is coated with Arlon’s 3220 crystal-gloss overlaminate that’s applied with a 63-in., thermal laminator. Installers equipped with sleeved 3M Gold nylon squeegees, torches and rivet brushes.
“This project was exciting because it was part of Mercedes-Benz’s unveiling of the CLS,” Eng said. ‘They used them to transport event personnel to the Lincoln Center. These vehicles are worth more than $130,000, so we were extremely careful. To replicate a police car, we installed light bars on the roof, which was a challenge.”
He continued, “To add to the vehicles’ flair, they wanted us to wrap the lips and spokes of the wheel rims, which required precise detail work.”
