Jack Muldoon, president of Accent Graphics Inc. (Grand Prairie, TX), told ST his service tech captured this faux pas while servicing a sign. Muldoon said, “Great example of good ol’ fashioned, ‘Texas Engineering’ for a transformer box. And people wonder why our industry is getting more and more regulated. 3/8’’ flex for the GTO to boot. No wonder Texas started a licensing program for sign installers/service techs a few years ago.
The TDLR (Texas department of licensing and regulation) monitors and licenses many professions in our state. We have to send proof that we’ve worked enough hours in our trade to qualify for taking a test (either for master sign electrician, journeyman sign electrician or apprentice) Once taken and passed, we have to take 4 hrs of continuing ed classes ea. year in order to keep and renew our licenses.
