FIRST PLACE

Flavored vodkas have recently become fashionable spirits, but not all brands benefit from a powerful advertisement with such a behemoth rendering. Keal devised the system using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to alter Diageo’s supplied artwork to conform to the 40-ft.-long bus; the fabrication team output the Controltac IJ180-10C vinyl on its Mimaki JV3-160S solvent-ink printer. To protect the print, bluemedia applied 3M’s 8518 gloss-finish overlaminate. The campaign, which traverses such metro-Phoenix nightlife hotspots as Scottsdale and Tempe, began in April and continues to drum up business for Diageo’s libations.

SECOND PLACE

This verdant wrap’s design successfully conveys a less-is-more approach to graphic text. Produced for a company that sells home sites for a future Costa Rican gated community, Source One Digital devised the program using Adobe Illustrator CS and handled pre-flight with Onyx Graphics’ ProductionHouse RIP. The shop outfitted the client’s box truck and trailer with 1,800 sq. ft. of 3M’s Controltac IJ180-10C vinyl with Comply embossed adhesive on a Gandinnovations Jeti 3318 solvent-ink printer (one of seven Jeti printers it owns). To protect the print, they used 3M’s 8519 luster-finish overlaminate. According to Randy Crow, Source One Digital’s president, the shop completed printing, finishing and installation in less than two days.

THIRD PLACE

The sound and fury of the Air Force’s Jet Car signifies speed and power, and Blaine Warren sought a trailer wrap to convey similar excitement. Because the client stipulated minimal seams, Crush Creative wrapped all doors, fenders, bumpers, gas tanks and steps with one piece of vinyl. To help the vinyl conform to contours and problem areas, installers applied 3M’s 94 primer and 3950 edge sealer. They output the program with 3M’s 8620 vinyl and 8914 mesh-window film on its Scotchprint 2000 electrostatic printing system. Gloss-finish 8518 and 8671 window-film overlaminates protect the “wild blue yonder.”
