Drawing Attention

MICHELLE JORDAN, A New Zealand-based graphic designer with a passion for illustrating, has used the COVID-19 pandemic to recreate vintage signs with positive, inspiring messages and post them on Instagram (@100daysofmobijo). Jordan embraced the #The100DayProject – a free, online, worldwide art project intended for people to explore their creativity – and began perusing signage on Instagram, Flickr and Pinterest during her country’s COVID-19 lockdown.

Jordan received her original inspiration during a virtual tour of the Tim Burton installation at Las Vegas’ Neon Museum – specifically, the signage behind the Burton installation. “I was completely taken with the workmanship, the designs, the colors, the neon and the quirky way they are put together,” she said. Jordan endeavors to credit the original photographers of the signs in her posts, and her newfound online community helps her properly identify the original photographer if Jordan is unable to through her own research.

Jordan’s work has continued past the conclusion of #The100DayProject, and she has “met” various artists, having been added to their online groups and newsletters. “I cannot wait to be able to travel, so I can go and meet them in person and see some of the signs for myself,” she said.
