Signshops try diligently to conserve their resources. However, after weeding vinyl used to decorate a banner or handletter a vehicle, waste inevitably accumulates. And, it’s been well documented that vinyl with an adhesive layer can’t be recycled. So, what’s a resourceful signshop to do?
Bart Dellinger, owner of Sign Clemente (San Clemente, CA), found a creative solution. Starting at 2008’s outset, the shop’s employees began assembling all its scrap vinyl into a ball. As the year progressed, they decided to begin forming into a beanbag-style chair.
He’s not sure of the precise mass of vinyl the chair comprises – Delllinger said it comprises “several hundred sq. ft.” of material – but Dellinger is happy with his new piece of furniture.
“Believe it or not, it’s really quite comfortable,” he said. “And, it changes colors with every job.”
