2008 International Sign Contest Winners

FIRST PLACE

This simple series of pole banners, which feature captivating nature scenes with minimal text, helps convey the Ogden Nature Center’s amenities to passersby. Ferrari Color output the banner series on Seattle Textiles’ 13-oz. vinyl using the shop’s Durst Rho 350R printer. Bosworth took onsite photographs and developed the program using Adobe®’s InDesign® software.

SECOND PLACE

Bluemedia developed this program for Olsen Events Group, which Hewlett Packard (HP) contracted to develop digital graphics that promote HP’s Scitex brand at a company event. In turn, Olsen hired bluemedia to develop a series of soft-sided signs that demonstrate the diverse markets HP serves. Fittingly, the shop output the program on its HP Scitex XL using the machine’s eight-color setting, and fabricated the 21-ft. 8-in. x 12-ft. banners using 14-oz., matte-finish banner material.

THIRD PLACE

SPD developed a multimedia graphic package for Muzeo, an Anaheim, CA-based museum and cultural-arts center. To complement its brand-ID and web-design efforts, the firm “crafted a communication system that conveyed the brand to internal and external audiences, as well as [creating] an instantly recognizable identity through consistent … image, color and message.” Signtech partnered with SuperGraphics to fabricate the system. The framed graphics were printed with EFI-Vutek’s (Foster City, CA) UltraVu 5300 solvent-ink printer on Ultraflex’s (Randolph, NJ) Normandy® Pro 13-oz., white flexible substrate. Installers secured the system with Superstructure’s (Toronto) XLG framing system. The “History Walk” banners were similarly fabricated sans the frames.
