2008 Vehicle Graphics Contest — Fleet Vehicles

SkinzWraps fabricated an eight-vehicle fleet, which ranged from a Toyota Prius to a stretch limousine, for Sweet & Sassy, a Dallas-based, nationwide franchise that provides spa services and parties for pre-teen girls. Owner Peter Salaverry and his team designed the wrap using Photoshop CS3 software, and produced the wrap on its two, Mimaki JV3 printers using Avery Graphics’ MPI 1005 EZ RS vinyl and DOL 1000 and 4002 overlaminates for the body and windows, respectively.

Blaine Warren ordered wraps for six Air Force Reserve installations that range from Ohio to Texas. Thus, the project required coordination with several installation contractors. Also, the complex design features three Air Force aircraft images – the F-16, C-17 and Apache helicopter – that bedeck different vehicles. Rosenberger said Crush meticulously centered the Reserve logo on each door because a separate piece of vinyl decorates each. Crush produced the wrap on its EFI VUTEk 3360 printer with Controltac film with 8519 luster-finish overlaminate for the body, and 8671 perforated film with 8914 ultra-clear laminate for the windows. Beforehand, installers prepped the surface with 3M’s Primer 94 adhesive promoter.

Third Place

Nisbet’s straightforward, yet clever, design for this six-truck fleet plays on the company name and the business’ purpose. He devised the program using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software, as well as Onyx Graphics’ ProductionHouse RIP. After having prepped the body with 3M’s Primer 94, fabricators produced the wrap on the shop’s Mimaki JV3 solvent-ink printer with Durasol® inks on Controltac air-egress film. Given the wrap’s graphic emphasis and vivid color contrast, 3M’s 8518 gloss overlaminate proved a wise choice.
