Chicago Tests Borealis® LED Streetlights

PolyBrite Intl. Inc. (Naperville, IL) announced that Chicago has installed new Borealis LED streetlights as part of a test-pilot program. The city will monitor the LED streetlights and weigh the results against its current street- and alleyway-lighting solutions.
Borealis LED streetlights have been installed, and will be monitored for three months, on the block of 4800 W. Parker Ave. The city will be testing the LED streetlights for high color rendition to assure adequate vision, and greater control of light dispersion and energy savings. Currently, most of the city’s streets are illuminated with HPS streetlights. HPS lights, which are known for their long-rated life relative to other conventional options, but also for a very low color rendition, which hinders night visibility.
