Ford car dealership installs double-faced, 65-ft.-tall LED marquee to attract business.

The Bill Utter Ford dealership in Denton, TX has turned to an LED display to drum up more business. Utter said, “The decision to make the commitment to install this sign at this time, in light of the current economy, wasn’t an easy decision. However, in looking at all the factors involved, it did seem to be the right time to help position us to move forward in a recovering economy.”

Utter contracted Dallas-based Green Group Media to provide a turnkey solution by designing, manufacturing, fabricating and installing the 65-ft., double-faced LED marquee (the electrical run was subcontracted). The GLite Pro 25mm-pitch display announces customer incentives and deals, promotes civic events and community awareness.

Green Group designed the marquee in three sections. The marquee features the GLite Pro LED system with a walk-in cabinet. This is capped with an illuminated ID sign that features 24-in.-tall LED backlit channel letters that display the dealership’s name on both sides. Finally, Green Group Media fabricated and incorporated a neon-backlit “Pre-Owned Cars” sign mounted on the pole roughly halfway to the top.

Brian Bachman, Green Group Media’s account manager, said, “The dealership is in a difficult situation due to the depth of the grade on his property and the height of the Post Oak Dr. bridge. Folks driving from the north simply couldn’t see Mr. Utter’s dealership until after they had passed the exit or driven under the Post Oak Dr. bridge.”

To alleviate the poor line of sight, Green Group Media worked with the city of Corinth to secure a variance to increase the overall height of the sign.

The marquee, which measures 12 x 16 ft. itself, stands nearly six stories above ground on Interstate 35, just south of Post Oak Dr. Bachman said 300,000 cars per day pass this location (the state is widening the highway in 2011). “So, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., this area is at a complete stop!” Bachman said. “It’s horrible to drive in, but if you have an LED sign displaying multiple messages, you love it.”
