Gerber Unveils Material-Testing Web Portal

Page offers data sheets that reflect media performance to UV, environmental exposure

Gerber Scientific Products (South Windsor, CT) is announcing a new applications, materials and substrates web portal for its site: www.gspinc.com/applications. The portal will display results from Gerber’s material-qualification process to help owners of the company’s Solara ion™ and Gerber CAT UV™ printers determine what materials will yield best results. The process replicates the testing process the company has performed on more than 170 materials for its EDGE® thermal-transfer printers during the past 15 years. The process includes tests in an environmentally controlled chamber that simulates UV exposure and weathering conditions and testing material reactions to more than 40 common chemicals and potential contaminants.

According to Gerber, the company won’t rate materials, but will provide raw testing results via data sheets that report results on material profiling, abrasion and chemical resistance, and outdoor durability. The page also provides application notes that instruct customers how to use materials for best results.
