Glass Alternative

Vitex (San Jose, CA) is offering Barix encapsulation, a thin-film technology that creates a moisture and oxygen barrier that’s potentially as effective as a glass sheet. Display manufacturers can deposit the coating atop organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) on a glass substrate, eliminating the need for a glued-on-metal can or extra sheet of glass.

Often referred to as "flexible glass," Vitrex’s product reportedly delivers a thinner, lighter display than glass and tackles OLEDs’ sensitivity to moisture and oxygen.
