Here Are 4 “Out-of-the-Box” Benefits to Consider Giving Sign Employees

Got any tips on improving task delegation? Our owner loves to get his hands into everything instead of focusing on improving the business.

Politely remind your owner that his job is not to be a superworker — he pays people for that. His main focus should be on ensuring resources are used effectively, setting standards and strategy, honing your company’s competitive edge, and experimenting with areas where your business can improve. Humbly request that team members be given a chance to bring their own ideas and approaches to the other tasks at hand. Promise that employees won’t get carried away with their newfound independence. The owner should clearly state directions and expectations, and schedule a progress review for every new project delegated.

Can we do guest posting on your website?

It depends. We get this request often, but keep in mind that contributor content must inform and educate, not promote products or services. All stories on signsofthetimes.com from sources outside of Signs of the Times editors themselves are pre-approved. For example, even though our columnist Dale Salamacha, co-owner of Media 1/Wrap This (Sanford, FL) often writes about his own company’s projects, his columns are approved in advance and their purpose is more to provide advice, examples (and entertainment!) to our readers than to promote his company.

That said, we are in the process of adding new, “Online Extra Columnists,” so it is now more possible to do a “guest post,” but as an online columnist and subject to the same guidelines as our print contributors. The new, online extra columns may, even should, involve examples of your company’s signwork, but the primary purpose must be to provide industry advice or otherwise communicate an important or interesting sign business idea, tip, trick, technique or the like. If you would like to try your hand as an online extra columnist, email us at editor@signsofthetimes.com.

What are the most popular employee benefits?

From an article in Forbes this past February, “According to a survey conducted by Ramsey Solutions, the top 10 benefits currently offered include [in order]: health insurance; paid time off (PTO); retirement savings plans; life, dental and vision insurance; health and wellness programs; disability insurance; employee assistance programs; and mental health/emotional wellbeing services.” The article also highlights four “out-of-the-box” employee benefits:

  1. Reimbursement for work-from-home expenses.
  2. Increased focus on employee financial health.
  3. Student loan benefits. (Editor’s note: maybe this one is more “out of the bag” now…)
  4. Sick time and personal leave for remote workers.

“In 2021, an unprecedented 38 million workers quit their jobs,” the article states. “Burnout has been blamed as one of the leading culprits … Employee benefit programs can address some of the root causes of burnout which just might reduce employee turnover, increase productivity, and create a healthier and happier workplace.”
