Hats Off, Louis M. Brill

Longtime contributing editor and reporter on Times Square signage retires.

Longtime Contributing Editor Louis M. Brill, who has written for Signs of the Times since 1992, is retiring. Over the recent decades, he worked with three successive editors. Known for chronicling Times Square signage spectaculars over the past 15 years, Brill documented the biggest and brightest that the sign industry had to offer. The San Francisco-based journalist and consultant also wrote about emerging sign technologies: pscholograms, interactive kiosks, holograms, laser signs, media façade, electronic billboards and Burning Man’s neon façade covering.

Brill’s reputation grew to the extent that the developers and LED manufacturers knew to contact him for publicity about their new technologies. His most recent piece, “Going with the Flow,” ran in our December 2017 issue. We wish him well.
