A Florida man was recently arrested outside a Target store for a shoplifting incident that’s equal parts brazen and bone-headed.

Police responded to a theft in progress at the store in Palm Coast, FL after receiving a report about a man who carried a “Razor” brand electric scooter valued at $539.99 past all points of sale before exiting the store, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered the man assembling the electric scooter in front of the store on the sidewalk.

“This dumb criminal of the week must have thought he was in another state or city where it’s OK to walk into a store and steal what you want and not face any consequences,” said Sheriff Rick Staly in a media release. “He didn’t get to ride ‘his’ Razor but he did get a free ride to the Green Roof Inn in the backseat of a patrol car.”

The man was charged with petit theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held on $2,000 bond.

Here’s the bodycam footage of the head-scratching episode:
