Winifred Bronson Swormstedt, the matriarch of the Swormstedt family, succumbed to cancer on May 8. She was 89. The mother of former ST publishers and editors Tod and Wade Swormstedt, “Winnie” accompanied her late husband, Dave Reid Swormstedt, Jr. on numerous trips to the National Electric Sign Association (NESA, now ISA) tradeshows. A native of Winchester, CT, Winnie graduated from Keuka College in upstate New York in 1951, where she served as editor of its literary magazine, Red Velvet. Professionally, Winnie worked as a teacher and later the director of the nursery school at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Madeira, OH. Following the passing of her beloved “Mr. Dave” in 2013, Winnie lived at The Kenwood retirement community in Cincinnati, where she remained active with the writing group up until her death.
