NYC DOT Misspells “Jakie” Robinson Parkway Sign

Locals react to the whiff with incredulity.

Even if you’ve never watched one inning of a single baseball game, odds are you’ve heard of Jackie Robinson, the man who broke the sport’s color barrier in 1947.

That’s why it’s hard to fathom anyone could misspell his name, to say nothing of its phonetic simplicity.

No less, the New York City Department of Transportation has done it, botching a road sign in Queens that features the likeness of the Brooklyn Dodgers icon and the words “Jakie Robinson Parkway,” The New York Post writes.

Reacting to the mistake, locals weren’t willing to go to bat for the NYC DOT.

“I just feel it’s a little odd because how do you not know how to spell his name? He’s a well-known figure,” Quana Martin, 32, told the outlet.

A candid youth pitched a more plain-spoken take:

“It’s f—ing stupid,” said JP Ward, 17. “I wouldn’t say it’s disrespectful, but it’s definitely stupid.”
