Oat Foundry Split Flap Display an “Old School” Choice

Oat Foundry, a Philadelphia-based engineering design company, had its Split Flap Display featured at the recent Natural Products Expo in Philadelphia. The Split Flap Display is a sign module that has its own driving motor and uses a Hall-effect sensor to control 50 character flaps.

Elmhurst 1925, which sells nut and grain milks with six ingredients or fewer, rented a three-row by 24-column Split Flap for their booth display at the expo. Elmhurst typed out and scheduled one-minute customer testimonials and relevant quotes in an automated loop using Oat Foundry’s web app. The display was chosen by agency Humid Creative (Conshohocken, PA).

“Split Flap displays naturally create a degree of anticipation,” Will Mazzei, product designer at Humid Creative Agency said. “People passing the booth hear the flapping sound of the display in motion and turn their heads. There is a natural curiosity that connects them to your content in a way that other displays don’t.”
